Joe was born and raised in Lima and lived in California during his high school years. After he graduated from high school in San Diego, he worked with his church youth group. Joe started his Christian education at Azusa Pacific University near Los Angeles. He later transferred to the Lima branch of Ohio State University, and then to Winebrenner Seminary in Findlay. He graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Religious Studies. He served as Youth Ministry Director from 2002-2022 and began serving as an elder in 2021.
